El Paso Pug Rescue

Su's Medical Fundraiser

SuAmanda Herrera

This is Sù! She is an 8 year old lady Pug. She was rescued from a puppy mill. When we received our little Sù, she had tapeworms and severe dental disease. She was also bred so many times that she is slightly incontinent.

We have already gotten her parasite treatment, dental work, spay, vaccinations, microchip, and her urinalyses. Sù had a serious urinary tract infection, and needed antibiotics. She has completed her antibiotics, and now needs follow-up urinalyses to see if her UTI has cleared before she can start her incontinence treatment.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation towards her medical expenses. We have 4 ways you can donate:

  1. Visit our site's donation page at www.elpasopugrescue.com/donate
  2. Call East El Paso Animal Hospital at (915) 593-1712 to make a donation.
  3. Visit our Go Fund Me page at: https://www.gofundme.com/EPPR-Medical-Fund
  4. PayPal's Giving Fund at https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/search-cause?charityId=118147&s=3

We are officially a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization!

Amanda Herrera

We so excited to announce that we received our IRS letter of determination!

We are officially a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization! This means we can now apply for grants, and all donations we receive are tax deductible! This was made effective August 7, 2015, so any donations to us after that date are tax deductible!

I can't put into words just how grateful I am to everyone who helped us reach this goal! We absolutely appreciate every single person who donated to our application fee. It means a lot to us to see how many people want to see our rescue succeed.

Thank you all so much!

Fundraiser for Brindle Strays Medical Expenses

Fundraisers, Ms. Bea, BradAmanda Herrera

We started a new fundraiser for our brindle strays!

Please donate here: www.gofundme.com/eppr-medical-fund

We received 2 brindle strays on October 7, 2015, and we did our best to find their original owners, but no one has come forward. It has been 3 weeks that we have searched for them, so now we need to add these two pups into our rescue which means they will need to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, placed on Heartgard, and microchipped.

We have affectionately named them Brad and Ms. Bea.

Ms. Bea appears to be a Boston Terrier / Pug Mix, about 4 years old, and a recent mommy. She is a very loving little girl.

Brad appears to be a Boston Terrier / Pug Mix, also about a year old, and he is just as affectionate as Ms. Bea. We believe she may be his mom.

Please help if you can by donating and sharing our fundraiser.

If you'd prefer to make a donation directly to our veterinary clinic, please contact East El Paso Animal Hospital at (915) 593-1712, and mention that you'd like to make a donation for the El Paso Pug Rescue.

Thank you!

Little Rigby Is Home!

Rigby, Happy TailsAmanda Herrera

I wanted to give a quick update about our little Chihuahua foster, Rigby.

His foster family loved him so much; they decided to keep him! We're very excited for Rigby! We already know that his foster family is a bunch of amazing people under one roof, so we know he is in really great hands. We want to wish them all the happiness in the world!

Fundraiser for our 501(c)3 Application

Behind the Scenes, FundraisersAmanda Herrera

We started a small fundraiser for our 501(c)3 application!
Please donate: www.gofundme.com/elpasopugrescueIRS

EPPR is in the process for applying for our 501(c)3 status, but our application will cost $400 to submit. We cannot apply for grants until our application is approved, so this application is a very important short-term goal. The additional $50 is the fee to register our Service Mark.

Since we are a new rescue, we are incredibly underfunded. We have been forced to send our most recent rescues out of El Paso because we were unable to afford their medical expenses, and that is unfortunate.

We have huge aspirations to make a difference in our community, but we cannot do it alone. We appreciate even the smallest of donations because everything helps, and we are eternally grateful for any support our friends and community can offer.

**This fundraiser is only for some of our start-up expenses that we need help with ASAP. We will have other fundraisers to help with medical expenses soon.**

Brindle Strays

Brad, Ms. BeaAmanda Herrera

Two brindle strays have come our way! They're a beautiful pair who were found on the east side 3 days ago (Sunday, October 4, 2015) on a busy street. We will continue looking for their family for a while. Please contact us to identify them, if they belong to you.

We'd Like to Introduce Rigby!

RigbyAmanda Herrera

Meet Rigby! He came from the City of El Paso Animal Services. He was picked up as a stray, and since he was micro-chipped, we hoped his family would come for him. He waited for 9 days (3 days past his due date), but they never came. His time was up.

As some of you know, most of the people at the El Paso Pug Rescue are also volunteers at the shelter. We couldn't say goodbye to Rigby. He's such a happy guy and so full of life. He has a big personality that we quickly grew to love, so we accepted him into the rescue.

We're estimating that Rigby is about 5 years old. He's very playful, but can also be very calm. He's nervous when he first meets other dogs, but settles in very fast. He loves attention and doesn't mind being held for hours.

If you're interested in adopting Rigby, please go to our "How To Adopt" page at www.elpasopugrescue.com/how-to-adopt/ and make sure to mention "RIGBY" on your application. :)

Ginny Went Home!

Happy Tails, GinnyAmanda Herrera

Hello everyone,

I'm so happy to announce that our sweet Ginny finally found a home! She was adopted by wonderful people who we know will give her a great life. Due to Ginny's anxiety with other dogs, we were willing to offer a weekend trial in her potential new home to see if she would get along with their senior dog, and she had a great weekend! She got along famously with her new brother! When I went by to complete the adoption process and say goodbye, I could see the happiness in Ginny's eyes as she sat on her new Mom's lap and gazed up at her lovingly. I had never seen Ginny look so content. I want to wish Ginny all the happiness in the world with her new family; she truly deserves it.

Ginny is still looking for a family of her own!

GinnyAmanda Herrera

Hello Pug friends,

Ginny was a FEATURED PUG on our Facebook page over a month ago, but we only received two applications for her. Unfortunately, one home was not a fit for her, and the other home bought a puppy during their application processing time (background checks can take up to a week) and didn't want her anymore. I'm glad Ginny is doing well in her foster home. It would be heart-breaking if dogs understood when people didn't want them.

Today, I want to talk a little bit about Ginny's story and the life she led before she came to us on June 15, 2015. Ginny was surrendered to us by a family who was going through some personal issues, and decided to give her away. They had her since she was a puppy. During her life, she had her legs broken twice, was impregnated by a large dog, and was subsequently spayed after loosing her puppies. She was not house-trained when we got her, and didn't respond to her name even though she had it all of her life.

Ginny is an amazing Pug. She is a happy and healthy girl. She is very smart, and was house-trained in about a week. She hasn't had an accident in over a month. She answers to her name now too. We've taken her to some of our Puggy outings, and she does really well in public settings. Her 5th birthday was August 2nd, but she is still a really active lady. She loves going on long walks and going swimming! She is such a fun girl who would love to go on adventures with you, She is also very affectionate and loves to be held.

If you are interested in adopting Ginny, please go to our How-To-Adopt Page, or if you know anyone who would give Ginny the amazing life she deserves, please tell them about her.

Pet Heroes Adoption Event

Ginny, Adoption EventsAmanda Herrera

We would like to thank Pet Heroes Dog Grooming East for inviting us to their grand opening and for giving our foster Ginny a free manicure! Their groomer offered free grooming and de-ticking for the Pugs in our rescue, which is a huge help for us! We also received more donated supplies from our awesome supporter, Tracy! Thank you for all of your help!

Best Wishes for Pepper

Pepper

Hello everyone,

I'm happy to announce that our little girl, Pepper, went on to live with her forever family. She was a favorite of everyone here at the El Paso Pug Rescue. She was in such fragile condition when she arrived, and we all were there for her through her recovery. It is truly an emotional experience to see a dog progress and pull through tremendous odds; she is such a strong girl. We will miss her very much, but we know that she is in great hands. Her new family was so excited to have her. They know what she has been through, and we know that they will give her an amazing life.

Congratulations, Pepper! We wish you and your family the best!

Best Wishes for Sampson!

Amanda Herrera

Hello friend and supporters!

Sampson

I'm happy to announce that we completed our second adoption! Our big boy Sampson went on to live with his forever family! We received several applications for him, and with a lot of thorough deliberation, we had a unanimous decision. We are confident that we chose the most successful and fulfilling home for Sampson.

Congratulations, Sampson! We wish you and your family all the best!

A Successful Event!

Amanda Herrera
EPPR event

This past Saturday, we were invited by the Dames for Dogs to share their booth at the El Paso Punk Rock Flea Market. I want to thank D4D for being so generous with their space. I also want to thank our awesome supporters Karen Washington and Tracy McGreevy for coming out and donating some much needed supplies. It really means a lot to EPPR as a new rescue to see how much support good-hearted people are willing to offer. We couldn't be where we are without people like you.

The Pugs were hot, but did surprisingly well. They were on their best behaviors. Ginny who used to be outdoors a lot at her previous home, barked almost the whole time. She sometimes forgets that she has retired from being a guard dog. On the positive side, she brought more attention to the booth!

The event was very successful. We received several adoption applications as well as several foster applications, plus all of those donated supplies. I'm so excited to see how much can be accomplished in one event!

Update on Pepper and her Recovery

PepperAmanda Herrera

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to give you an update on Pepper, who is currently our only adoptable dog. She was spayed on Monday, and is recovering quite well. This girl has been through so much in her little life. Pepper came into El Paso Animal Service having just been mauled by another dog, and we weren't completely sure she would survive her injuries. Since she was in such fragile condition, the shelter couldn't adopt her to the public, and would've had to euthanize her if we did not step in. They let us take her into our rescue where she has been recovering for the last month. Pepper has shown us what a tough girl she is, and how she is truly a survivor. She still has some tenderness on her hind right leg, but other than that, she is in great health. She will be ready for adoption in about another week! Whoever adopts this girl will truly have an amazing dog who was literally on the brink of death and in serious need a loving home.

I also want to point out how small we are right now, with only one available pet, but since we are still trying to figure out where to get funds and applying for our 501 (c)(3), it's ok for us to start small!

Hello Pug Fans!

We're a brand new rescue who is starting from nothing. This website might look a little bare and incomplete right now, but we're doing our best to get everything set up.

Thanks for your patience!
